So yes, it’s definitely a bummer not having my kids around for Easter this year, and do I therefore plan to spend all of Easter day-drinking mimosas and marathoning all the Hunger Games movies? Also yes. However, you know what I DO still have the heart to put out as Easter decorations? All the heirloom-quality Easter crafts that my family has created together over the years! Ephemera is fun, but it’s projects like the beautiful wooden Easter eggs that my children painted when they were small, the little Easter basket and egg stuffies that I sewed them from a vintage quilt, and the wooden bunny and chick figurines that my partner painted that are currently bringing me comfort and filling me with happy Easter memories. If you, too, would like some surefire heirloom-quality Easter crafts that you’ll love looking at even years later, and that your loved ones can continue to enjoy for generations after you’re gone, check out my list of my favorite, and most special, Easter crafts.

Book Page Egg

My favorite decoration is a basket of all different kinds of beautifully decorated eggs on my coffee table. These eggs decorated with little snippets of book pages are especially fun, because you can choose books with meaningful passages, or just books that seem relevant to the holiday.

Bunnies in Love Pillow

My favorite part of this pillow pattern is that it’s good for two holidays a year! Put it out for Valentine’s Day, hide it away for St. Patrick’s Day, and then bring it back out for April.

Bunting

I have to admit that the entire concept of the festive bunting has had me by the throat for a good fifteen years now. I sew buntings for every single occasion, including last year’s total solar eclipse! Putting up my holiday bunting is one of my favorite parts of decorating for every holiday every year, and if my kids don’t fight over them after I’m gone, I swear that I will haunt them both.

Crocheted Bunny

This crocheted bunny is small and simple and perfect! Applique it to a sewn basket, make a set for coasters, or string several from a garland.

Embroidered Felt Easter Egg with a Pocket for Surprises

I still prefer “proper” Easter eggs, but these embroidered felt Easter eggs are still decorative, still hold plenty of treats and surprises, and they’re easy to store and to mail.

Rabbit Waldorf Doll

This project is not for a scaredy-cat sewist, as it requires a few different fiddly techniques and a lot of precise stitching, but the result is a darling bunny doll that any child would treasure.

Sewn Easter Basket and Easter Egg Softies

This sewn Easter basket is the perfect size for a younger child, and a set of Easter egg softies fills it nicely during all those indoor egg hunts. When there’s no longer anyone around who relishes the idea of an indoor Easter egg hunt (sob!), this set also looks charming and delightful as a coffee table decoration.

Sock Bunny

This festive holiday version of a sock monkey looks particularly adorable when sewn from argyle or striped socks. They make fun toys for a kid’s Easter basket, of course, but when sewn from an old or outgrown pair of fancy socks, they also make a sweet keepsake.

Fabric Carrots

If you sew a sock bunny, then obviously you also have to sew it some fabric carrots to eat! These carrot stuffies would make a terrific addition to a little kid’s play kitchen, and a fun decoration for an Easter dinner table.

Wood-Burned and Watercolor-Stained Wooden Eggs

You could stop at the wood-burning and then simply varnish or wood stain these wooden eggs, but I love the look you get by staining them with liquid watercolors. As you can see in the above image, you can stain the entire egg a single color, or get out your paintbrushes and add in a ton of detail. P.S. Do you have a favorite heirloom-quality holiday craft?
