Fortunately, there are just as many easy quilt patterns out there in the world as there are complicated ones. Below, check out my list of my absolute favorite easy quilts to sew. Whether you’re a beginning sewist longing to make something cool, or you’re in a time crunch and want to get something sewn quickly, or you just want to enjoy yourself and not fuss too much over patterns, there’s something on this list for you!
Chevrons
Chevrons aren’t hard (life is all about the half-square triangle, after all!), but they’re powerful since you can use them to make so many different patterns. Here, half-square triangles make a fun chevron pattern that’s super simple once you get the hang of it.
Double Four-Patch
I love this block because it makes your finished top look a LOT more complicated than it was! There are infinite layout options for a full top, so you can use this one pattern forever and have a brand-new look every time.
Fat Quarters
If getting your project done quickly is your priority, this is the pattern for you! Using fat quarters, and large cuts of them, as well, makes the entire top quick to cut and quick to sew.
Half Squares
Half squares are a LOT easier than half-square triangles, but they still give you tons of design options. This tutorial adds sashing to set off the half-square blocks, but you can omit that step and just sew the half-squares together to make your top.
Half-Square Triangles
Want to get really, really good at half-square triangles? This is how you do it! The pattern shows you how to make these half-square triangles into a sweet baby’s receiving blanket, but once you’ve unlocked the technique, you can have fun making up all kinds of patterns with them.
Nothing but Hexagons
Hexagons are normally one of the fiddlier patterns to sew, but the techniques in this tutorial make them a piece of cake! I love how you quilt each block individually, which means that you can have fun playing with all kinds of different techniques.
Nothing But Log Cabin
This log cabin is super easy to sew because it never stops! Just keep going around and around and around until you’ve hit your preferred dimensions, then add batting and a backing. This pattern works best for square quilts like the California king in the image.
Nothing But Squares
This is the absolute easiest quilt in the world to sew–it’s literally nothing but squares! If you’re a brand-new beginner, this is a great place to start. Minding those corners to keep them lined up is good practice for precise sewing.
Nothing But Triangles
Although triangles are fiddlier to sew than squares or rectangles–all those points to match!–this quilt is still on the easy side, with just one type of block to manage. I was able to sew this quilt, which I’m donating as part of the 2025 Quilt Drive to benefit Comfort Cases, in less than a week of casual sewing during free moments. Add interest by arranging the triangles into a beautiful pattern and quilting it in a fun way.
Pixels and Half-Square Triangles
The half-square triangles add a little bit of complexity but a lot of extra design choices to your standard pixel pattern. Sure, you could do a heart in pixels alone, but these triangles make it even cuter!
Rail Fence
Don’t want to fuss with a lot of fabric cutting? The rail fence is what you want to sew! One single jelly roll set is enough to make a whole rail fence top, and don’t be afraid to stash bust by combining jelly rolls cuts from different sets.
Strip Quilt
This is a fun way to combine all your favorite scraps of fabric into rows that you piece together. You won’t get anything super structured and organized, but the fact that it’s sooooo quick to sew really makes up for it! P.S. Do you have a favorite–and easy–quilt pattern?
