And because I’ve never met a Special Interest I didn’t want to share (ad nauseum, whether you like it or not), here are my current favorite mini quilt block tutorials and projects online. If you make a mini quilt block, too, then we can squee over them TOGETHER!
Quilt As You Go Scrappy Mini Quilt Block
This quilt as you go block is my favorite, because it is the best at scrap-busting! The easy technique allows you to use scraps as small as .75″, and you can size your block however you’d like. Frankly, the smaller quilt blocks are the easiest to sew with this method!
Nine Patch Mini Quilt
The sashing gives a different look to this nine patch quilt, and lets you show off your pretty fabric to its best advantage. I think this simple quilt would make a lovely table centerpiece or wall hanging.
Rainbow Mini Quilt
This is my favorite of all the mini quilts! I especially love the fanciful rainbow and the green print grass. This quilt block would make charming placemats for Pride month or St. Patrick’s Day–or both!
Barn Bats Mini Quilt Blocks
This 18″x18″ mini quilt would work well as a table centerpiece or pillow front for your Halloween decorating. I love how the above example eschews traditional Halloween colors for a far more interesting, but still quite batty, colorway.
Mini Square in a Square Log Cabin Quilt Block
These mini square in a square log cabin blocks make for the cutest way to show off a fussy cut bit of your favorite novelty print fabric. The heart in the center of the above quilt block is only .25″ square!
Log Cabin Mini Quilt
What does a mini log cabin quilt made from mini log cabin quilt blocks look like? Pure adorableness, that’s what! The quilt block above is made from 4″ quilt blocks, and the tutorial includes all the cutting and piecing instructions so you can have your own pure adorableness, too.
Scrappy Circles Mini Quilt
This is a really unusual technique for making a scrappy quilt, and I love how much genuine work the quilting is doing here. Often in contemporary quilts the quilting is just for show, but it’s VERY necessary here!
Mini Shamrock Block
At 6.5″ x 6.5″ finished size, this quilt block is barely bigger than the coasters I’ve been making! Add some extra batting and call it a mug rug, or make multiples and stitch to binding to create a St. Patrick’s Day bunting.
Polaroid Quilt Block
My favorite part about this quilt block tutorial isn’t how the fussy cut piece looks like a Polaroid picture–that’s my second favorite part! My FAVORITE part about this quilt block tutorial is that you can make it any size you want, from perfectly huge to adorably tiny.
Mini Raspberry Kiss Block
This little block is my excuse to sew mini quilts while learning paper piecing! The mini raspberry quilt block finishes at an adorable 2″ square. Piece three of them in a row and you’ve got yourself a bookmark, or stitch cardstock to the back of one and use it as a gift tag.
Mini Friendship Star Block
What’s even more adorably tiny than 2″ square? An eensy 1.5″ square! This friendship square quilt block is the smallest of the lot, perfectly sized to mount to mat board to make magnets, or applique onto a jacket as a patch.
Circle of Fun Delight Quilt
Circles are always such a fun look in a quilt, and impressive to anybody who knows what’s what with sewing. I think this 18.5″ square finished quilt would make a sweet wall hanging for a baby’s room, or perhaps something like an heirloom-quality seat cushion cover. Do YOU have a favorite mini quilt block?
