I have a solution: DIY bookmarks! DIY bookmarks are tiny projects with a timespan to match. You can whip up a super cute upcycled cardboard bookmark in minutes, and even a more elaborate quilt-as-you-go stitched bookmark takes less than half an hour to sew up. Want more crafty time? Make them in bulk, because bookmarks make awesome gifts! I tuck my DIY bookmarks into care packages, Easter baskets, the books I put into my Little Free Library, and all my etsy orders....

You can make just about anything into a magnet, and I’m going to prove it to you! 1. alphabet. Has the kiddo outgrown her magnetic alphabet? I am not much of a paper crafter. I’m just too messy with the glue, for one thing, and I use too many buttons as embellishments, and whenever I make a layout, whether it’s a greeting card or a scrapbook page, something is always, always, ALWAYS crooked. Chances are that there’s a DIY loom for you. Handmade looms, built from a variety of recycled materials, can be used to weave everything from friendship bracelets to area rugs. Most of these looms are kid-friendly enough to serve as a summer camp activity, and all of them are made from stuff that you should be able to find or freecycle. For bonus points, upcycle your own yarn, too, from newspaper or plastic bags or T-shirts, and make the entire project an upcycled one....

You will need: a record album, gesso, acrylic paint, embellishments (see below), your choice of sealant/varnish, your choice of hanging mechanism (see below) Decide if you’re going to want your painted album to hang free or against a wall. If you want your record to hang against a wall, only gesso one side. Personally I’ve always kinda shunned it. I found it wasteful because so much paper and useless little dodads were used, so it’s never been a “green” thing to do in my mind.
